At the mesoscale, small-angle x-ray scattering (<a href=\"https:\/\/als.lbl.gov\/tag\/saxs\/\">SAXS<\/a>) at <a href=\"https:\/\/als.lbl.gov\/beamlines\/12-3-1\/\">Beamline 12.3.1<\/a> made it possible to determine the overall shapes of HU\u2013DNA complexes in solution. At the nanoscale, <a href=\"https:\/\/als.lbl.gov\/tag\/protein-crystallography\/\">protein crystallography<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/als.lbl.gov\/beamlines\/8-3-1\/\">Beamline 8.3.1<\/a> allowed identification of the molecular-level mechanisms that mediate DNA bundling.
